Montessori

“Supposing I said there was a planet without schools or teachers, where study was unknown, and yet the inhabitants—doing nothing but living and walking about—came to know all things, to carry in their minds the whole of learning; would you not think I was romancing? Well, just this, which seems so fanciful as to be nothing but the invention of a fertile imagination, is a reality. It is the child’s way of learning. This is the path he follows. He learns everything without knowing he is learning it, and in doing so he passes little by little from the unconscious to the conscious, treading always in the paths of joy and love.”

A brief introduction to the Montessori Methods:

Philosophy and Pedagogy

Learn about the philosophies and pedagogy of the Montessori Method of Education.

Practical Life Activities

Practical Life Activities is quite self-explanatory. Nowadays, we can notice a rising trend of children who are unable to take care of themselves that often leads to grown adults who are simply incapable of doing even the simplest of chores. The exercises here will help your child develop a sense of independence. Here they will learn how to tie their own shoelaces, button their shirt, clean after the table  and so forth all the while doing so in a graceful and courteous manner. Watch as your child take the first steps into becoming a responsible and self-sufficient adult.

Sensorial Education

Once a child reaches the age of three (or younger) they depend mostly on their hands to see and learn about the environment around them. Visual-based education are limited in what they can offer to your child as at this point they have yet obtained the experiences and impressions adults have accumulated over the years.  Sensorial Education is designed to help your child understand what they are ‘seeing’ with their hands  and help develop their abilities to appreciate the differences in colours and textures including how to organise their thoughts and objects around them.

Beginning Reading (Language)

This section focuses on developing your child’s vocabulary and writing skills. Beginning Language helps to introduce your child to basic alphabets, how grammar functions and so forth.  Unlike most methods, Montessori opens the doors to reading through sounds before moving to phonetics and understand the rules in grammar.

Beginning Maths (Number Work)

Beginning Maths helps build a solid foundation in arithmetic for your child. Here they learn how to count from 1 – 10 and learn to understand the concept that the aforementioned numbers represents a specific amount. With this in hand, the child is introduced to the concept of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with the intent of making them understand the meaning of each and how they function in the realm of mathematics.  Here Montessori differentiates from the standard: the teacher is not made to stand in front of the class and teach as it would be in any other classroom but allows the child to learn at his/her own pace, in such a way that he/she does not feel as though he/she is actually in a learning process or being taught.

Cultural Studies

(Botany, Zoology, Geography, History, Astronomy and Creative Arts)

Cultural Studies grants your child the opportunity to explore and understand the world that he or she lives in. This subject provides them with the basic knowledge in the major scientific subjects to stimulating their artistic senses in the creative arts.
